What readers are saying about Rain Dance…
The way Joy connected both of these women's lives of suffering from unchosen childlessness for one, and chosen abortion for the other, was done with much love and care. It really tugged at my heart. From the first words in Chapter One I was captivated with "Raindance." The two main characters, Jonica and Stacie, came alive as Joy took me into their thoughts, hearts and lives. In addition to their story, I was also touched by the character of Stevie, a “special” child.
This book was not only entertaining but had some powerful messages that spoke to me personally. As a mother of a special needs child I was reminded how important all people are to God. As a Christian I was reminded of how important it is to watch what I say and how I say things and to have a forgiving spirit when someone offends me, especially unknowingly. -KP
This book is completely from Joy's heart. The story captured me before I was finished with the first chapter! I hurt when the people in the book hurt. I rejoiced when they rejoiced. I cried tears of joy . -AS
After reading Rain Dance, I was finally able to grieve for the child I had aborted 30 years ago....Up until that time, I had never allowed myself to do that--I felt that I did not deserve closure because of the terrible decision I had made! Raindance brings together the many diverse angles in the prolife and abortion debate while showing the reader how friendships can flourish with those whose views differ radically from our own. I was inspired by Jonica’s genuine day to day relationship with God lived out in her prayers and conversations with Him. It is rare one gets such an intimate glimpse into the raw emotions of living daily with such things as infertility, abortion and life choices. The hope that Raindance gives its reader is life changing. –JS
Joy does a brilliant job of telling a story from two different perspectives, simultaneously. As an aspiring author myself, I would not even consider such an attempt. It's a wonderful book. I laughed and cried and praised God for what he can and does do, in real life and in fiction. I plan on passing it around to my friends. Thank you for writing your book and sharing your God given gift. LM
Rain Dance was a very touching book, even though I have never struggled with the issues that it focuses on. Once I picked up the book, it was hard to put it down because I became very involved in their lives. I believe Rain Dance is a powerful story that very accurately portrays women who have had an abortion and women who can't have children, and brings them together in a very unique way. LR
What happens when a Christian woman unable to have children extends friendship to a postabortive woman? In the unique novel RAIN DANCE, author Joy DeKok explores the potential of such a relationship, providing a tender look at the compassion of Christ.—CC
Rain Dance opens doors many people ignore and talks about issues that really matter. I have walked a very similar road and I rejoiced as I read this honest, often heartwrenching, story. I knew as I read it that it had to be written from a heart that knows. Every church library should have this book! TT
Rain Dance - what it meant for meThis gave a name and a face to the struggle of the barren and the abortive woman. I have not personally shared either of these experiences, but I have a better sense of their trials. This has given me a better understanding of how I can help and how to pray specifically for their needs. LA
Joy is not only a talented writer but also a beautiful person, inside and out. Her book, Rain Dance, is a touching story that displays how God puts the right people in our path at just the right time and how He can turn our mistakes into stepping stones and our sorrow into beauty. bcRain Dance by Joy DeKok is a journey into real life in the form of fiction. DeKok fully explores the terrain of infertility and abortion. DeKok's characters are full, rich and real. No matter your feelings about the subject matter, Rain Dance will touch your heart.
